"youtube" wasnt making money prior to the commercials; they lost money, that's why they went to the ads and even w/ that theyre still losing money. just google "youtube losing money" and youll find articles reporting this. "new media," i.e. internet media, is just proving hard to monetize. "hulu" isnt making money either. the only way they can make any money is if they institute sub fees w/ the ads. the absence of such is just proving to not be a viable business model for new media.
