EMI Records
-----------
EMI Records is a record label, founded by the EMI company in 1972 as the successor to its Columbia label. The global success that EMI had enjoyed with pop music in the 1960s exposed the fact that EMI only had the rights to some of its trademarks in some parts of the world, most notably His Master's Voice and Columbia, with RCA Victor Records and the American Columbia Records owning the rights to these trademarks in North America. Complicating matters was the formation by American Columbia of its own operations in the UK by purchasing Oriole Records and changing its name to that of its then parent company CBS (the legal trademark designation bearing the full name of the parent company, "Trade Mark of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. "), and becoming highly successful, a serious rival to EMI, in the UK. EMI Records picked up the English Columbia roster and signed new acts that would become global successes, such as Kraftwerk, Queen, Olivia Newton-John, Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, Sheena Easton and Robbie Williams.

The game centers on the pirate Guybrush Threepwood, who returns home with his wife Elaine Marley after their honeymoon, to find her erroneously declared dead, and her office of governor up for election. Guybrush must find a way to restore Elaine to office, while uncovering a plot to turn the Caribbean into a tourist trap, headed by his archnemesis LeChuck and Australian co-conspirator Ozzie Mandrill. Sean Clark and Michael Stemmle were the lead designers, both of whom worked on previous LucasArts adventure titles. The soundtrack encompassed contributions from five different composers, including Michael Land, composer for the previous Monkey Island games. Escape was the last of LucasArts' adventure games to be released. It was also the second and last game to use the GrimE engine, which was upgraded from its first use in Grim Fandango.

Elstree Studios
---------------
Historically, the name "Elstree Studios" refers to any of several film studios that were based in the towns of Borehamwood and Elstree in Hertfordshire, England. Despite being called “Elstree Studios” only one studio was actually located in Elstree itself, the remainder being in Borehamwood. There are a number of reasons for this: When the studios were being established, Elstree was significantly larger than Borehamwood.
It must therefore have seemed sensible for anything that needed the name of the town in its name to be named after Elstree rather than Borehamwood. Nowadays, Borehamwood is the larger, but the old names have remained in use. The fact that the parish that contains the town is also called "Elstree" may have had some influence on the choice of name. When the studios were at their most prolific, the local railway station was known as "Elstree". This was because it was cheaper to print 'Elstree' onto the tickets rather than 'Borehamwood'. (Nowadays, it is called "Elstree and Borehamwood". ) Furthermore, the local telephone exchange was also called just "Elstree". Before the advent of subscriber trunk dialling, a person wanting to make a telephone call to a studio would ask the operator for, for example, "Elstree 1234". It would therefore be natural for anyone visiting the town to make a film to think that the whole town was called Elstree.
