Speculation is mounting that troubled producer Phil Spector may "pull a Roman Polanski" and flee America to avoid charges over the murder of Lana Clarkson. According to the New York gossip site Daily Dish, Los Angeles law enforcers have received a tip that the 'Wall of Sound' musicman could leave the country before his October 31 hearing. A source tells the newspaper, "Spector has a private jet. The sheriff's office has been told that he might use it to take off. The police said they appreciated the information, but that they didn't have the manpower to keep watch on him 24 hours a day." Last month, the Los Angeles County Coroner ruled Clarkson's death a murder. The actress was found shot in the foyer of Spector's California home in February. Spector is on $1 million bail and is still awaiting any charges pertaining to the murder. The Pianist director Polanski famously fled America for France in 1977 after being convicted of a charge of unlawful sex with an underage girl. But Captain Frank Merriman, head of the La Sheriff's homicide bureau, says, "If we felt it was necessary to watch him, we would. I'm not worried about him. If he's charged, he'll either turn himself in or he'll flee. But where's he's going to go? Let him run. We'll catch him."
