After Kaante and Musafir , producer-director Sanjay
Gupta is back with his latest offering . Zinda which promises to be the darkest
movie ever by Gupta and tells you a story never told before on Indian
screen.
Shot in Bangkok, Zinda is about Balajeet Roy (
Sanjay Dutt ), happily in love with his pregnant wife ( Celina Jaitley ).
Life takes an abrupt turn when Roy gets locked away
in a room for 14 years! Roy has no idea who his captors are, and neither does he
know why he has been locked away in isolation for so many years.
One fine day, he is suddenly set free. As he enters
a drastically different world, Roy tries to find out what really happened to
him.
He bumps into three people -- Rohit Chopra ( John
Abraham ), Jenny ( Lara Dutta ) and Joy Fernandes ( Mahesh Manjrekar ). Who are
these people? And were they connected with Roy's captivity in any way?
Zinda has the answer to this, and much more.
Gupta's Kaante was a copy of .Resevoir Dogs., and
Musafir was loosely based on .U-Turn..
This time, Zinda is said to be a copy of the Korean
film .Oldboy..
All three films have been produced by White Feather
Films, partnered by Gupta, Dutt and Nitin Manmohan . No surprise that Dutt
features in all the three films.
With Zinda, John makes his debut as singer. The
song, .Yeh hai meri kahaani., is sung by Pakistani band Strings' Faisal and
Bilal, and John does a voiceover. The song also features Dutt.
A music video featuring the four has already been
released, and Zinda's music is already climbing up the charts.
Dutt also sings in .Kabhi muskurana., composed by
Vishal-Shekhar .
Lara had a good 2005. Her films Kaal and Dosti -
Friends Forever did reasonably well. And she even featured in 2005's biggest
hit, No Entry . Whether Lara will prove lucky for Gupta remains to be seen.
John is not the only one changing his avatar
inZinda. Besides being a director, Gupta doubles up as a lyric writer for the
film. He has written the title track, .Zinda hoon main..
Zinda expected to hit theatres on January
12.
